In a large skillet, or saute pan, heat the oil over medium heat. Add the sliced almonds and saute for just a few minutes, toasting. Add the sliced garlic, and shallot, lowe heat, sauteing until fragrant, about 3 minutes. Add the lemon zest, black pepper and red pepper flakes, toasting one minute. Turn off heat.

Microwave on high power until almost tender, 8 to 10 minutes. Drain in a colander and refresh under cold running water to keep the nice green color. Heat a frying pan over medium heat. Add almonds and cook until just starting to turn golden, about 3 to 5 minutes, watching closely so as to not burn.

Remove the almonds from the pan; wipe the pan clean with a paper towel. Melt the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter in the pan. Add the shallots and cook for 3-4 minutes or until tender. Heat the remaining olive oil in the same skillet over medium heat. Add the green beans and cook, stirring occasionally until bright green and softened, 8-10.

How to make it. Put ⅓ cup sliced almonds in a skillet and toast them over medium/low heat for about 8-10 minutes or until the almonds are a light golden/brown color. Add 2 tbsp butter, stir in, and let it cook for a couple of minutes until it's light brown in color and has a nutty aroma. Transfer the butter/almond mixture to a bowl and stir.
