The Christopher Ironside 50p marked the 100th Anniversary of the birth of the designer of the UK's first decimal coins in 2013. The coin shows Christopher Ironside's Royal Arms design (runner-up to the winning design of Britannia for the first 50p in 1969). The fifty pence piece is circulated and protected in a small plastic wallet.

The 2013 commemorative 50p coin features a design of Ironside's depiction of the Royal Coat of Arms, or royal arms. He chose to represent the image with the 4-section shield in the center and a crown on top. Inside the four sections are images of three lions, a harp, and a lion rampant.

Two commemorative coins: one to show the rejected runner up design that was nearly used for the original 50p and a commemorative coin to mark the centenary of the birth of Benjamin Britten. The coin with the standard (new) design featuring the bottom section of the Royal Coat of Arms was also issued.
